Baby Shower Fun

Yesterday I hosted a baby shower in honor of my good friend April.  She and her husband are expecting their baby boy early next month and we cannot wait to meet him!  I was thrilled to host her shower and tried my best to make it extra special for her.  I coordinated the homemade invitations and the decor to go with her gorgeous green and white nursery.  It was a brunch shower and the food turned out wonderfully!  I will be featuring several of the recipes on the blog throughout the next few days.

The spread (minus the cake – it arrived a bit late):

The gorgeous and delicious cake!  (No, I did NOT make this!  My talented friend Danielle did.)  It was a lemon creme cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream under the fondant.  AMAZING!

The menu was as follows:
juicy iced tea (green tea mixed with pomegranate juice)
strawberry lemonade

mini lemon poppy seed and blueberry muffins
apple cheddar and chocolate chip scones
tropical fruit salad
smoked salmon rolls
pesto palmiers
pineapple chicken salad sandwiches
stuffed strawberries

Oreo truffles

Here are some other detail pictures:

Handmade invitations by moi.

Ten of these tissue pom poms hung over the dining table.

I dyed these onesies with Rit dye for a cute background during games and gifts.
Reuseable Blumeboxes filled with daisies were a great way to spruce up several surfaces.

Boxes of green and white drizzled Oreo truffles for favors.

Mommy and Andrew after it was all over – what a fun party!

  7. Ashley, the green invite paper is actually just pieces of 12×12 metallic scrapbooking cardstock from Michael’s that I cut to size. The white paper is from Paper Source.

  18. I found your blog through a friend of mine who cooked a few things that you had posted about. She gave you rave reviews so here I am! Several of your posters have akined you to Martha and I agree. You are quite talented. I have a question about your pom-pom balls. Are those Martha’s? And did you have any trouble making them? I have seen those before and several people commented on how fickle they are – do you agree? Thanks and I look forward to reading more of your posts now that I’ve found you.

  19. Danielle,
Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the blog 🙂 You are right, the pom poms are the ones from Martha’s website. I didn’t have any trouble with them at all. I’ve made them for previous showers I’ve thrown and find them to be a quick, easy way to display shower colors and brighten things up.

  20. Simply gorgeous! Very creative. I really loved the cake, and the mantle decoration.

  24. Hi, I got here through the nest WC board. I swear…I think I’m going to steal your ENTIRE baby shower for one of my very best friends. I LOVE everything! The food looks and sounds delicious (and DOABLE) the decor is elegant and beautiful, yet simple. My girlfriend LOVES green and is not finding out the sex of her baby. I’m SOOO glad I found your blog! Please…please, can you tell me how you made those gorgeous invites? I’d pay you to make some for me! Wonderful wonderful stuff! Thanks again! Emily

  25. Annie,
It’s Whitney from blumebox.I just wanted to tell you what a gorgeous party you planned for your friend.

I was wondering if you might be willing to share those images with us to use in our ideas gallery? Ideally if you have any close-up shots of the blumeboxes. If not a large format would work just fine as well.

We love to showcase creative ideas people are dreaming up. The fresh lime and white color pattern is so stunning!

Look forward to hearing back from you.

  26. Love that cake 😉 Sorry I couldn’t make it to the party in Dec… peds Surgery called 😦 I’m gonna try out some more of these recipes on here now that I found the link again.

  27. hey annie, some of my friends and i were curious about the invitations. did you use a flower stamp and embossing powder or did you buy the cardstock with the white flower already imprinted on it? thanks!!

  28. Hi Annie, I was wondering if you could share how you made the juicy iced tea. I found a recipe online but it is for a much smaller quantity. How did you make so much? Thanks!!

  29. Annie-
Such a pretty party! Where on earth did you get those wide mouth glass crocks for your punch?? I am hosting my very last baby shower this Saturday and have been struggling to find a modern-ish looking way to serve non-alcoholic sangria, of all things. Thanks for your time; I am so glad to find your blog!
