With ridiculously expensive prices at the movie box office, not to mention a LOT of movies that aren’t worth the cost, it is a very rare thing for Ben and I to go and see a movie in the theatre. However, thanks to the fantastic entity that is Netflix, we can have a blast watching movies at home. I like to make it kind of a “date night in” with yummy homemade snacks. This serves more than one purpose, as it is a great time for us to relax as a family, and also for me to try out some of the delicious-looking snack recipes that I bookmark but rarely have occasion to make.
This version of homemade pizza rolls was really awesome! I decided to use store-bought pizza dough as I had quite a bit in the freezer to use up. Plus, it seems counterintuitive to spend an excessive amount of time making a snack for a casual Friday night in. I’m sure you could play around with different filling options, as long as it isn’t anything too bulky that could fall out easily. I can’t wait to make these again!
Pizza Crescents
Ingredients:
1 batch pizza dough
2 tbsp. crushed garlic
1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
¼ tsp. pepper
½ cup pizza sauce
2 oz. pepperoni, chopped fine
1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend
¼ cup grated Parmesan
olive oil, for brushing
sesame seeds, for topping
Directions:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or prepare a pizza stone for baking).
On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough into a ¼ -inch thin circle, about 14 inches in diameter. Mix together garlic, seasonings, pizza sauce and pepperoni. Spread in a thin layer over the dough, leaving a 1 ½ -inch circle bare in the center. Sprinkle the cheeses evenly over the sauce. Cut into 12 equal slices. Starting at the edge, roll one piece in towards the middle. Tuck the end in underneath and pull the arms in from the outside forming a slight U-shape. Place on baking sheet or pizza stone. Repeat with other slices. Let rise 20-30 minutes.
In the meantime, preheat the oven to 400°. Brush the rolls lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

What movie did you watch?
PS. I just love Netflix!
Erin,
We watched “Rendition”. It was good, but quite heavy for a fun Friday night…and then I had nightmares about it! I’ve chosen something lighter for next time.
What a fun idea! I may have to try out some fillings my family would like on our next family movie night!
