Spicy Sausage Dip

This seemed such a perfect “man food” when I first saw it, and I knew it would be a hit at our party.  I did not anticipate that I would be unable to keep my own paws off of it.  Truly, this stuff is addictive!    With only four ingredients, it is one of the easiest recipes I can think of.  You can definitely control the level of heat with your choice of ingredients.  If you want it really spicy, get “hot” sausage, “hot” diced tomatoes with green chiles, and use a lot of hot sauce.  You could also mix in some cayenne pepper and/or jalapeno for an added kick.  Make it for your Super Bowl party, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Spicy Sausage Dip
Printer-Friendly Version

1 (16 oz.) package spicy/zesty sausage
1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes with green chiles, undrained
2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese
Hot sauce, to taste

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned.  Drain off any excess fat.  Reduce the heat to medium and mix in the tomatoes, cream cheese, and hot sauce.  Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is warmed through and the ingredients are well blended.  Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary.  Serve warm.

  5. This will be perfect for this weekend! What sort of hot sauce are people using? I’m not used to cooking spicy foods so I’m unfamiliar with the best kinds…thanks!

  6. I’ve read for ages and am not usually one to comment but had to. This is a family favorite. We make this for every occassion. My family and my husband’s family will devour it. We make a double batch using one regular sausage and one hot/zesty sausage. We also drain one of the cans of Rotel, once it’s all cooked just throw it in the crockpot and it’s an instant hit.

Our family also prefers it with the big Fritos Scoops. It is so delicious, we have it at least once a month at something.

  7. This is a favorite in our group of friends as well – we call it “Party in your mouth” Dip!

  13. Great recipe! I will be making it this weekend for my husband to take to a Super Bowl party (I am staying home with the kids) but you better believe I am saving a bowl of this dip for me! And I love that it doesn’t have Velveeta in it!

  14. Sausage and cheese? Yes please.

  15. OMGOSH! This is keeper. Thank you soooo much for sharing.

  16. This dip is amazing… I had bought all the ingredients one day and didn’t make the dip because we had other stuff, so I made it for dinner and added some cooked chicken and topped it onto pasta…. It was super yummy… My kids request this dip all the time…

  17. OMG my mom makes this for EVERY party we have! I’ve never seen anyone else ever talk about it. It’s sooooo addicting! She always has to make a double batch! We serve ours straight from a crockpot. 🙂

  18. I look forward to trying this!! I can’t get Velveeta in Europe, so I’m glad to see it is not needed for this!!

  19. I have a favorite recipe very similar to this that my family loves! It is only different in that it calls for shredded cheddar cheese to be mixed in. Ironically, it’s called Annie’s Hot Sausage Dip! I found your website a little while ago through MotherLoad, I think, and just love it! I’ve recently tried the Broccoli Cheddar Soup and the Chicken Gyros. Both were FANTASTIC and will become regulars for us! Thanks so much!!

  20. Hey Annie! This looks great! Another variant of the cheese dip that is always a hit:

    2 packages spicy sausage
1 family size can of cream of mushroom soup
2 jars drained rotel tomatoes with chiles
Velveeta cheese cubes added to desired consistency

    Thanks for the great recipes!

  28. This is perfect “woman food!” I made it for a Super Bowl party and it was demolished. I added another can of rotel (without the juice), some fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. It was perfect! Thanks for the yummy recipe!

  29. Delicious! I have made it 3 times now, for three different parties. I’ve tried different sausage flavors and have had great results. My husband likes Italian sausage with Italian canned tomatoes with crushed red pepper the best.

We have found that making sure that the sausage is crumbled really well is key to a more homogeneous dip.

  30. Made this for a party yesterday with turkey sausage. It was a hit. Will experiment with Italian turkey sausage next time.

  31. We have been making this for years at family events. We always call it “Crack dip” because once you start, you can’t stop eating it! haha. Love your site!

  32. Hi Annie! I just started following you blog today! I was looking for a Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe! I just finished making them! My Fiance just ate one and he said they were Delicious! I cant wait to try other recipes from your site! I have seen quite a few that I will be trying next month for a few parties that are coming up! Thanks again for posting all this stuff!
