Instant-Read Thermometer

These are useful for soooo many things!  Checking to be sure meat or poultry is properly cooked through is probably the most important, but I also love mine for making custards (and avoiding scrambled eggs), caramel, or checking the internal temperature of a loaf of bread.  Someday I hope to get a nicer one but this one has served me well.

  1. I can’t find one that lasts more than 6 months to a year (if I’m lucky!). I don’t know if I just use and abuse mine to death, or if they’re just not very durable. I’ve even tried the old-fashioned kind and even broke that (and I was so good about keeping it calibrated and everything). If you find one that’s accurate AND durable, let me know!
